Description

EDIT: this little pendant is now up for sale on etsy

After a lot of to and fro this little guy is finally done! He was a HELL lot of work and just now on revisiting I found THE part which makes the whole piece a little unbalanced and I’m very much like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! because I do this every freaking time; I work on pieces too long and really want them to be done when I should let them go, do something else and get back to it later. In this case it was the left side of the piece that wasn’t balanced out as well as it could be (especially in comparison to the right side) and doesn’t have as fluid lines (which happens when you overthink things too much) and I know this is probably going to bug me a LOT. I’m also fairly sure I’m going to be the one who feels most strongly about it but thus is the course of the perfectionist...

Just like my little brass frog I started this one off with a base from polymer clay which I reworked a LOT, until I came to the desired result. Then I sent it off for casting and bits broke off. Bummer. It wasn’t the fault of the caster, as I’ve explained before, if anything it was my fault for regardless of how often I talk about silicone and making molds and everything I somehow repeatedly neglect my own advice.

And I just realised I get too rambly and too self-hatredly with this description and I’m going to stop here. I learned a lot working with this octopus about moldmaking, focus on details and staining. It’s not the best piece I’ve ever made, but neither is it the worst and I dearly enjoyed (most) of the process.

Have a lovely day everyone and don’t be too hard on yourself if not everything you do turns out great on the first go.
