I somewhat stumbled upon earth day (I COULD say THIS year, but it happens to me every year. Same thing with birthdays... ) and I knew I wanted to sculpt Tavarua, the heart-shaped island in Fiji.
It was a very quick sculpt that was easy to make a “big” number of. I started off with a modelling sand I got a while ago, mixed with a little bit of white glue, painted it with acrylics to imitate grass and then stuck some fake moss on for the trees. The sea was the hardest part; I played around a lot with it until I found a technique for creating a gradient I was actually happy with. Once that was done I glazed my sea and then put on a bit of white acrylic in the shape of the island in order to imitate the waves crushing on the shore. At that point I decided that the overall look of it didn’t fill the globe out as well as I thought it would, so I added the rainbow, which I think works really well.
On another whim I decided that since I managed to actually finish these for earth day I wanted to use them as the first items in my shop. The major things are up and running, I initially wanted to have a really set assortment of goods and more plans and stuff but I wanted to rid myself of that specific pressure in favour of having development and seeing where things will be going and see which items will sell and which won’t. So, if you’d like to purchase this little island (I got them as a pin and as a bracelet and a pendant too, which went up today since I needed to get pics with decent lighting) you can do so here. I will be putting a few of my other pieces as well, sort of by and by and if you see anything in my gallery that you would like to call your own, you can definitely send me a note and if it’s still available, I can put it up for you.
